Hasslö, or as the locals call it “Little Hawaii”, is one of the sunniest islands in Sweden and one of the largest of those located in the Blekinge archipelago.

The island has a popular shallow sandy beach and beautiful archipelago nature

Since ancient times Hasslö has been a place for fishermen. Smoked fish is still an important source of income for the locals. During the time of Hanseatic League the island was a center of coastal fishing and the harbour “Garpen” got its name from German influences.

Today 1650 people live on this beautiful island but not all of them are fishermen anymore, as from 1964 a Lambretta friendly bridge and its beautiful connecting road is linked directly to the International E-road network, E 22, making the transportation to the island very convenient.

There are many picturesque old fishing sheds/houses around the shores and harbours of the island and most of them are painted red with the traditional Swedish paint (Falu rödfärg) made of crumbled copper remaining from copper mining.

If you like going fishing yourself, bring your own equipment and take a day extra at Hasslö. Angling and casting in the sea are free of charge
